Would you mind giving us a brief insight into what your show is?
It’s a stand-up comedy show about falling in love for the first time and having a nurse check the size of your balls while your Mum is in the same room. So if either of those has happened to you, it will be super relatable.
Tell us about the creative team and the process involved?
I’ve been working on this show for two years so I’ve had a bit more time to get it into the shape I want! Heidi Regan has helped so much in directing the show, giving it a better structure and sharpening the routines.
Basically, I do a work in progress, it goes well, I think I’m a genius, it goes badly, I think I have nothing. So come to the show and decide please!
How does it feel coming to the Fringe?
Last fringe was pretty horrible for me personally so I’m not looking forward to being back really. Creatively it was great, I had a work-in-progress show that sold out the whole month, and I guess that’s the main thing of course. If I didn’t have a show that I was so keen to do, I probably wouldn’t go back.
There are over 3,000 shows at the Fringe. So, what sets your show apart?
How many gingers are there at the Fringe? At a so-called Scottish festival… shame!
Also, I hope my show is genuinely relatable to audiences. A lot of comedy shows at the fringe now are about the comedian’s personal story, but I feel my show is for anyone who’s ever fallen in love.
Is there anything specific you’re hoping the audience will take away?
I hope they leave and feel the rain on their skin! (I assume it’s raining)
Your Ideal audience is in attendance, who’s watching? Or more importantly – who isn’t…?
If you’re good enough and they can hear and see you, I don’t really believe in a bad audience.
Ideal audience would be just a group of people who are up for it and want to hear my stuff.
It’s an intense month, so where you’re able, how do you plan to relax, and are there any other shows you intend to see or want to recommend?
I’m terrible at this! I try to eat healthier when cooking for myself because I think that just helps day to day when you’ve definitely eaten fruit and veg. In terms of relaxing, I don’t!
Genuinely have not looked at a single other show yet, I’m just focusing on mine.
In your ideal world, how can we improve the Fringe, performance, and the industry?
Accommodation costs need to be capped. That’s the big one for me. I’ve seen it double over the last five years for no reason it seems other than greed. It doesn’t just stop great acts from being able to go up, but also industry and reviewers, which is the whole reason for being there in the first place.
