What happens when a psychologist is confronted by a wildly challenging creature – a force of nature with an extraordinary hidden talent. For lovers of drama, involving Neil Roberts, one of Britain’s leading actors, and operatic magic sung by Carly Paoli, one of the world’s leading sopranos.
Would you mind giving us an insight into what your show/event/performance is?
First act of a two-act play. Cast of two.
A young, feisty, rebellious girl from a difficult background is released from prison into the hands of a psychologist after attempting to kill her abusive stepfather. She turns out to be one hell of a handful for the shrink – highly intelligent, challenging, sexually provocative, and funny. She is the ultimate modern female, with vibrant and contentious views on life, politics, science, and much else. She gradually reveals some of her traumatic life, and as their volatile relationship develops, draws out some of his. She also reveals, after much verbal confrontation, that her secret ambition has always been to train as an opera singer. The psychologist, who plays the piano, persuades her to sing an aria for him, and indeed she proves that she has a great voice. Their relationship becomes evermore complex.
Therefore the unusual casting requires a talented actress with a serious singing voice, and a challenging role for a middle aged actor.
Tell us about the creative team and the process involved?
This has taken a year putting together the creative team – with experienced Edinburgh producer, Ines Wurth, international playwright/director Robin Hawdon, world famous soprano, Carly Paoli, and distinguished actor, Neil Roberts all involved. Edinburgh will just be the launch pad for what will hopefully be an exciting future for the play, travelling south to London and elsewhere.
How does it feel coming to (back to) the Fringe?
Looking forward immensely to the experience. It is fifty years since I last had a play on at the Festival!
With shows from all over the world at the Fringe, what sets yours apart?
The unique occasion of having a famous opera name, acting in a serious drama, and singing at the same time.
On that, is there anything in the production or production team’s backgrounds which influences the way the show is performed or told?

Is there anything specific you’re hoping the audience will take away?
Hopefully a truly original theatrical experience, involving a stirring drama and an equally stirring musical event.
Your Ideal audience is in attendance, who’s watching? Or more importantly – who isn’t…?
All lovers of compelling psychological drama and classical music.
