Back after a sell-out Edinburgh Festival Fringe run last year, Comedian du jour Alison Spittle returns with a bubbling cauldron of jokes, likely some rage, and with full intentions to have the audience rolling around with laughter (and find out what that burning sensation is…)
Voted one of British Comedy Guide’s best-reviewed shows, Spittle has already made major appearances and brought glee to the likes of Guilty Feminist, The Gargle, You’re Dead To Me, and the brilliant Off Menu.
Would you mind giving us a brief insight into what your show is?
Yeah, I don’t mind at all. My name is Alison Spittle, I’m a stand-up comedian and my show is called soup. Soup is about a little bit about CPTSD and a little bit about soup.
Tell us about the creative team and process involved?
My director is Lois Walsh, my partner is Simon and is helping me loads. Also, myself and a few other comics go to the library, tell each other jokes and we watch each other’s previews and give notes, the scene can be very supportive so that’s a big help.
How does it feel to return to the Fringe?
It feels fine, I had a nice time last year, a bad time a few other years, and I’m feeling positive although I do wish they had the firework festival this year. I can’t wait to see shows from other cities, especially the Scottish scene
There are over 3,000 shows at the Fringe. So, what sets your show apart?
It has me in it, with my material so I’m a snowflake on a big igloo, I’m different but it’s all similar, it’s chatting in front of a crowd.

Is there anything specific you’re hoping for the audience to take away?
A totebag or a badge, I’ve just ordered them. commerce babeh!
Your ideal audience is in attendance, who’s watching? Or more importantly – who isn’t there…?
I’d love humans that laugh out loudly and are generally unscented. People I don’t want are prejudiced people with stink glands
It’s an intense month, so where you’re able, how do you plan to relax, and are there any other shows you intend to see or want to recommend?
I swim, make soup or I watch a youtube documentary about how Mariah Carey’s first divorced made J-Lo become a successful singer. My list of comic recommendations are as follows: Shane Daniel Byrne, Tamsyn Kelly, Josh Jones, Celya AB, and Sikisa.
In your ideal world, how can we improve the world of the Fringe, of performance, and the industry?
Convert all venues into ball pits, a wavy slide in the Tron and the Royal Mile is a big slip and slide.
