A musical theatre production set in a world where working class Trolls toil under bourgeois Gnomes. When Jerome, heir of the Gnome empire, finds himself falling for a Troll, it threatens to destroy his family, his impressive chive collection, and his very way of life.

Would you mind giving us an insight into what your show/event/performance is?

Sure! Our show is a musical theatre production backed by a 6 piece band of professional musicians. A bourgeois Gnome finds himself falling for a working class Troll, causing trouble, turmoil, and chaos among their home of Gnomeville. The contrast between an incredibly powerful score and the humorous, absurdist script makes for an incredibly entertaining experience.  

Tell us about the creative team and the process involved?

The process is shared between myself, Luke Rowe, and my co-producer, Gavin Lee. I focus on the storytelling, script, marketing and imagery, whilst Gavin handles everything music related. Composition, rehearsals, gathering musicians, that sort of thing. But everyone is involved in everything really, if anyone on the team has any cool ideas or suggestions, we always try and incorporate them. There’s a lot of simultaneous work and sharing, which allows it to all meld together very nicely.

How does it feel coming to the Dundee Fringe?

Chivetastic! Myself and my Co-producer, Gavin, are locals, and feel very fortunate to be given an opportunity to contribute to Dundee’s ever expanding art and culture scene. 

With shows from all over coming to Dundee Fringe, what sets yours apart?

Definitely the music. Our band is made up of some of the best professional folk musicians in Scotland, performing with instruments such as the Harmonium, Celtic Whistle, Viola, Cello, Guitar, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, and Drums. And they’ll all be dressed up as Gnomes and Trolls.

On that note, is there anything in the production/production teams backgrounds which influences the show?

Everyone on the team, band and performers, come from all across Scotland, and they definitely bring that aspect with them, whether in their acting, choice of instrument, style of music, the variety definitely makes the show look, and sound more interesting.    

Is there anything specific you’re hoping the audience will takeaway?

That not all Gnome’s are clever, chive munching little sprites, and that not all Trolls are stupid, pebble gobbling brutes.
