Performer Chloe Waddilove managed to find some time between dodging tigers, dancing in the circus and the madness of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2022 to Have A Gander about Tiger Lady. Taking inspiration from the life of Mabel Stark, a runaway who joins the circus, who finds she has an utterly remarkable talent for training and taming big cats – chiefly Tigers. With physical movement, live music, and puppetry, you’ll find the larger than life piece, complete with several big cats, at The Pleasance Courtyard through to August 29th.
Would you mind giving us a brief insight into who you are/what your show is?
We are LET Award 2019 winners and 5-star devised company presenting a true tale of excitement, danger and claws.
The most ferocious, unforgettable Mabel Stark – the queen of the circus in the time of the greatest show on Earth, she was the only woman to step into the ring with seven tigers. The crowd loved her! The men loved her! The tigers loved her!
Hear our tale of America’s bravest big cat tamer and you will see that the scars on her body were not as deep as the scars on her heart…
How does it feel to be a part of the 75th Anniversary Fringe?
To be a part of the 75th anniversary of the Fridge feels incredible! We feel so blessed to be here, on such a celebratory year. Especially having 2 years away from normality, it’s fantastic to be back!
There are over 3,000 shows at the Fringe. So what sets your show apart?
What sets us apart from other shows? Well, Dead Rabbits’ style of storytelling and the creative process we go through is packed with fun, playfulness and curiosity. Tiger Lady has spectacular visual set pieces, innovative puppetry, set and original live music!

Your ideal audience is in attendance, who’s watching? Or more importantly – who isn’t there…
Our ideal audience is an audience from all walks of life! Our show is for everybody and anyone. We just ask that they be open and ready to have some fun!
It’s an intense month, so where you’re able, how do you plan to relax, and are there any other shows you’re intending on seeing/Recommending?
Our plan to relax is to keep our bodies and minds as healthy as possible. Eating some good food, watching some fantastic shows and enjoying this beautiful city! However, we know it’s important to let ourselves breathe and to find time for ourselves to recoup from the buzz of the fringe! We intend to see lots of show’s during our month, however, we definitely will try to catch “Speed Dial” by Spies like us and “The Man Who Knew Thought He Knew Too Much” by Voloz collective, two fantastic innovative companies! So if you’re not watching Tiger Lady… go give them a watch!
